Pinterest has begun to dominate the online world in very less time after it was launched. New features which are being launched by the company from time to time have enhanced the interest of users in this popular online platform considerably. Recently Pinterest introduced a new feature, Place Pins. This unique feature allows users to highlight places of items which are shared on their specific pinboards.

The way it works is very simple. If someone pins a burger’s picture which he bought from some local restaurant, he can add the location of that restaurant to the map on his board. Using this new feature, users will be able to create boards for highlighting their local hotspots and planning trips. This will make it very easy for other users to see where a particular item is available.

To add Place Pins, users need to click the option of ‘add a map’ on their new board. This option can also be selected by visiting settings of their existing board. A search bar similar to Google will appear allowing them to add the location of their pin. A few pins by former Pinterest partners, like Open Table and Airbnb, have the locations added already.

These pinboards can also be shared among friends. A new feature has been launched which allows users to share the pinboards they have made with their friends and other people.

For example, someone creates a board mentioning his favourite restaurants and landmarks in the city of New York. He can then share his board with someone who might be visiting New York for first time. This way he can not only become aware of the famous eating joints he can visit during his stay, but for him roaming around this city will also become easy. This it can prove to be a great tool, enabling people to know more about other locations and places.

The company keeps on launching new and interesting features to maintain the interest of its existing users, as well as attracting the new ones. This feature is the fourth in the list of Pin-type launched by Pinterest during this year. Earlier Recipe Pins were introduced by the company, which included directions and ingredients along with the photo of the food. Product Pins offered details like availability and price of the items that have been pinned. Article Pins allowed users to share news stories through their pinboards.

Currently ads are not offered by Pinterest, other than Promoted Pins, however Place Pins have the ad potential. Pin locations include a variety of information regarding restaurants and retailers, as well as addresses and contact numbers. It is believed that in future they might include exclusive offers or promoted deals as well.

The launch of these pins was announced at an event, which was held the headquarters of the company in San Francisco. This event was attended by more than hundred and fifty invitees.

It has also been announced by the company representatives that the newly launched pins, as well as maps will be made available for smart phone users on Android and iOS as well.
